Perhaps you initially created your website with Jimdo, Wix, or WordPress. Over time, however, requirements, design demands, or marketing goals change, and with them grows the desire for a new solution.
Changing providers is not an unusual step. The important thing is to plan it properly.
Preparation before the change
Step 1: Back up your content
Before you start creating your Onepage, you should back up all relevant content:
Download images (in the best possible quality)
Save texts
Back up PDFs, downloads, and documents
Document internal and external links
Back up legal texts such as imprint and data protection
📌 Please note: Automatic export/import of the entire website is not possible with Onepage. The content is recreated and restructured.
This offers the opportunity to optimize the website in terms of content and strategy, but requires careful preparation.
Step 2: Document existing tools and access details
Before you start creating your new website in Onepage, you should carefully document all the tools and access details you have used so far.
These include, for example:
Google Analytics
Facebook Pixel
Google Search Console
External widgets
Even if the actual setup only takes place in the new Onepage project, complete documentation will make it much easier for you to go live later on.
Step 3: Plan your domain correctly
The domain is a central component of the change.
Important to know:
Domains remain with the respective domain hosting provider.
It is not possible to transfer a domain to Onepage, as we only host websites.
The domain can either remain with the previous provider or be transferred to a separate domain host.
Recommendation for a seamless transition
As long as the new website is not yet complete at Onepage, the domain should remain connected to the existing website. This way, your current site will remain accessible.
Only when:
the new website has been completely created
all content has been checked
tracking has been set up
everything is ready to go live
will the domain be connected to the Onepage project.
We recommend using the A record method. With the correct DNS settings, it can take up to 48 hours for the domain to be fully connected. In most cases, however, it is significantly faster.
Step by step to a new website
To ensure that the changeover runs smoothly, we recommend the following procedure:
Step 1: Plan the new structure
Take this opportunity to replan:
Which pages are really needed?
Which content can be summarized?
Where should clear calls to action be placed?
A relaunch is always an opportunity for optimization.
Step 2: Create a project in Onepage
Now the actual implementation begins. In Onepage, you can build your project from scratch.
Optionally, you can use the AI assistant (add-on "AI Assistant" required from T1000). The AI can pre-structure entire pages for you and suggest content, ideal for a quick and professional start.
You can find more information in the following article: Onepage AI Assistant.
Step 3: Set up SEO
To ensure that your new website is easy to find on Google, you should think about search engine optimization right from the start:
Create meta titles and descriptions for each page.
Make the URL structure clear and understandable.
Assign alt text to images.
Step 4: Upgrade
To connect your own domain to your project, you need at least the Essential plan.
Popular benefits of the paid plans include:
Connecting your own domain
Advanced design options
More projects and pages
Integration of the cookie banner
Integration of custom code
Tracking and much more
You can find a detailed overview of our plans and the features they include on our pricing page.
Step 5: Check the page
Before the page goes live:
Integrate tracking
Test forms
Check links
Check embeds
Insert legal texts
Check mobile view
Integrate cookie banner
Step 6: Connect the domain to the project
Once everything is ready:
Connect the domain to the project, ideally via an A record.
Check the DNS settings.
Wait for the propagation time (up to 48 hours).

Deactivate the old website
Once the new site is accessible, the old website can be taken offline by the previous provider.
Make sure that
the new website is fully accessible
all pages are working
and your tracking is running correctly.
The old website should then be deactivated. This will help you avoid downtime or duplicate content.
📌 Please note: It can take up to 6 weeks for your new website to be indexed by Google. To speed up the process, submit the page for indexing in Google Search Console immediately after publication.
