A customer testimonial is a personal review by a customer of your offering, your service, or their experience working with you.
It can appear as:
A classic text review on your website
A Google review with a visible star rating
A review on platforms such as Trustpilot or ProvenExpert
A video testimonial
Social media feedback
Why reviews are so important
Before we book, buy, or make an inquiry, we read reviews. Whether it's a restaurant, hotel, service provider, or coach, we first take a look at the star rating and then scroll through the individual statements.
Why? Because we want to know:
Is the provider reliable?
Do they really have experience?
Have others achieved good results?
Will I feel comfortable there?
An authentic review creates trust, and trust is the most important basis for any decision.
Especially if you are not an online shop but offer a service, customer testimonials are often the decisive factor in contacting you.
Why general statements are not convincing
Many testimonials look like this:
"The coaching really helped me."
"Ms. Meier is very helpful and reliable."
"Excellent service, highly recommended!"
These statements are too vague. They are nice, but they don't provide any real insight. Strong customer testimonials are specific, for example:
What was the challenge before?
What solution was implemented?
What has changed in a measurable or noticeable way?
Why was this collaboration so special?
The more specific the statement, the more credible it appears.
How to ask for reviews in a targeted manner
Many satisfied customers don't write reviews, not because they are dissatisfied, but because they don't think of it.
That's why you can actively ask:
After completing a project
After a successful milestone
After a positive feedback meeting
You can specifically ask for a Google review or a short written testimonial for your website.
A simple guide will help your customers formulate their response, e.g.:
What was your initial situation?
Why did you choose me?
What did you particularly like?
What has improved for you?
This will result in much stronger statements.
📌 Please note: Before publishing a customer testimonial, you should obtain written consent.
Also ask your customers if you can publish a photo. A picture, name, and specific statement are much more credible and personal than an anonymous review.
How to integrate your reviews
Add a new section and open the "Testimonial" tab. There you will find various layouts to choose from. Simply select the one you like best.
You can now manually add reviews, either those that were sent to you or reviews copied from Google. You can also make further adjustments to the selected layout, e.g. star ratings, colors, or other details.
If you wish, you can also include customer videos as testimonials; we have provided suitable templates for this purpose.
📌 Please note: If you insert reviews directly from Google or another platform, it is recommended that you link the review to the original source.
Incorporate external reviews
External reviews further increase the credibility of your website, as they are not created by you, but come from independent platforms.
Option 1: Embed Google reviews using a widget
Direct official HTML embedding is currently not possible. However, you can use third-party widgets, such as those from Elfsight.
Here's how it works:
1. Select a Google review widget.
2. Enter your company name and search for your profile.
3. Configure the design and layout.
4. Click on "Add to website".
Option 2: Embed the Trustpilot widget
To display Trustpilot reviews on your website, you need the official embed code (TrustBox) from your business account.
Here's how it works:
1. Log in with your business account.
2. In the dashboard, navigate to Marketing → Website Widgets (TrustBox).
3. Select a suitable widget.
4. Configure the layout (language, width, theme, etc.).
5. Click on "Get code".
Option 3: Integrate the ProvenExpert widget
With ProvenExpert, you can also easily display reviews on your website using an official widget.
Here's how it works:
1. Log in with your business account.

5. Click on "Generate code".
📌 Please note: With all three options, you will then receive an HTML code (custom code) that you can embed directly into Onepage. You can find out exactly how this works in the following article: Insert custom code in sections
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How many customer reviews are useful?
How many customer reviews are useful?
Three to five really strong testimonials are much more effective than twenty mediocre statements. It's not the number that counts, but the significance.
Select reviews that address typical objections from your target group. Good customer testimonials address the questions that potential customers ask themselves anyway and provide the appropriate answers.
Timeliness also plays a role. Check your reviews regularly and add new testimonials if your offering evolves or you set new priorities.
Where can I best use my customer testimonials?
Where can I best use my customer testimonials?
Customer testimonials are particularly effective when they are placed in the right places:
1. Home page
Here, testimonials immediately create trust. A short excerpt or a slider with 2-3 strong quotes is ideal.
2. Offer pages
Customer testimonials are particularly effective when placed directly next to your offer, as they address doubts exactly where they arise.
3. About me / About us
Here you can use personal references to highlight your expertise and personality.
Can I also publish anonymous customer testimonials?
Can I also publish anonymous customer testimonials?
You can also publish anonymous customer testimonials. They are better than no reviews at all, but they seem less personal and credible. Names, initials, or a photo make testimonials much more convincing.
