So that you know exactly how credits work, which plans are available, and what to keep in mind, we have answered the most common questions for you.
Why do different requests consume different amounts of credits? / How are AI credits calculated?
Credit consumption is usage-based and depends entirely on the scope and complexity of the task. Minor changes or simple requests usually consume fewer credits than complex generations, advanced code requests, or larger projects.
Can I use credits for individual features like AI images or text suggestions?
Every use of the AI requires credits. The exceptions are the AI Writer and MCP, which can be used entirely for free.
How many credits does it cost to generate images?
Generating an image consumes exactly 1 credit.
Does the AI Add-on still exist?
No, the standalone AI Assistant / the AI Add-on no longer exists. The AI functionality and monthly credits are directly integrated into the main subscription plans starting July 1, 2026.
Which plan do I need to use the AI? / How many credits are included in my plan?
To use the AI features, you need a paid main plan, as these plans automatically include monthly AI credits.
Users on the Free Plan receive a one-time allocation of 20 starter credits for AI use. These starter credits are not renewed monthly. The Free Plan includes free access to MCP and the AI Author.

What happens to my starter credits from the free plan when I upgrade to a paid plan?
If you switch from the Free Plan to a paid plan, your one-time 20 Starter Credits will be added to the monthly credits included in your new plan.
Example: If you upgrade to the Essential Plan with 25 credits per month, you’ll have a total of 45 credits available during your first billing period.
The 20 starter credits are awarded only once and will not be credited again in subsequent billing periods.
Can I buy credits also individually or only in fixed amounts? / How do I increase my credit limit?
The number of your monthly credits can be easily increased by either upgrading your main plan or by purchasing additional credits directly in your account.
Please note that fixed selection sizes are available for this, flexible booking of single, individual credit amounts (such as only 10 or 15 credits) is not possible.
If you need more credits, you can choose one of the following fixed options via the dropdown menu in your main plan at any time:

How do I change my monthly credits?
You can easily adjust your monthly credit limit by navigating to your account settings and using the dropdown menu directly within your main plan configuration.
What happens when my credits are used up?
If you run out of credits before the end of your billing cycle, you can upgrade your limit at any time by selecting a larger credit package from the dropdown menu in your main plan.
Which credits are used first?
The system always automatically uses the credits that are closest to expiring first. This ensures that none of your credit balance expires unnecessarily.
Are there discounts if I buy a lot of credits?
With higher credit tiers and packages, the price per credit decreases. This means: The more credits included in your setup, the cheaper the individual credits become.
Do credits expire after a certain time?
Short answer: It depends on whether they are the credits included in your plan or credits you bought additionally. Regardless of this, you will always receive your new included credits at the start of each new billing month.
Included Credits (from your main plan): These credits expire at the end of your billing cycle. They cannot roll over to the next month. Your balance will automatically reset and be filled with your new monthly included credits as soon as the next month starts.
Additionally purchased credits (via dropdown): If you don't use them all, these credits will roll over to the next month. However, they can only roll over once. They must be used during that following month and cannot be carried over a second time to a third month.
Do credits expire upon cancellation?
Yes. If you cancel your plan, all remaining credits (both included and additionally purchased) expire completely at the end of your contract term. A refund or transfer is not possible.
Where can I see how many credits I have already used?
In your profile under "Billing", you can see at any time how many credits you have used and how many are still available for the current period.
Do cancellations or error messages consume credits?
No. If an AI generation is canceled or results in an error message, no credits are charged or deducted.
Can editors use my credits?
Yes, as long as they are granted permission. When you share a project with an editor, you can decide whether to give them the right to use the AI or not. If the editor has permission and your account runs out of remaining credits, they will see a notification when attempting to start an AI generation. This applies to all current and future editors with editing access.
Can I purchase an AI plan without a main plan?
Since the AI features and credits are directly built into the main plans (or managed via the dropdown menu of the main plan), a main plan is required to access and scale your AI credits.
