A custom domain makes your website reachable under an individual web address such as yourdomain.com.
If you don't have your own domain yet, an onepage.me domain is assigned to you by default when you create a project. You can already build your website with it and connect your own domain later at any time.
📌 Please note: Domains cannot be purchased or transferred through Onepage. Your domain stays with your current provider and is only connected to Onepage via the DNS settings.
Which connection method is the right one?
You have three options for connecting your domain to Onepage:
A Record: The recommended method for most websites
Name servers: Useful if you want to hand over DNS management to Onepage entirely
CNAME: For subdomains such as offer.yourdomain.com
1. A Record (recommended)
The A Record method is our recommended standard method and is the best fit for most use cases.
With it, your domain stays entirely with your current domain provider. All you do there is adjust the required DNS entries. For the connection to Onepage, an A Record and a CNAME entry for www are set up.
This method is particularly suitable if:
you want to keep managing your domain with your current provider,
you want to manage existing DNS settings and other services yourself,
you already use email services via your domain, for example.

2. Name servers
With the name server method, you transfer the DNS management of your domain to Onepage.
Instead of setting individual DNS entries with your current provider, you enter the name servers provided by Onepage there. The DNS settings are then managed through Onepage.
This method can make sense if you want to handle the DNS management of your domain entirely through Onepage.
⚠️ Important: If you also use your domain for email, you should check which DNS entries are needed for that before switching. These can include SPF, DKIM, DMARC, TXT or CNAME entries, for example. If applicable, they then have to be set up in Onepage.
For most use cases we still recommend the A Record method.

3. CNAME (for subdomains)
The CNAME method is intended for subdomains.
Examples of these are:
offer.yourdomain.com
go.yourdomain.com
office.yourdomain.com
A connection via CNAME is therefore suitable, for example, if your main domain is already in use elsewhere and you only want to connect a particular subdomain to a project.
📌 Please note: A www domain cannot be connected via CNAME. For domains with and without www, use the A Record method.

How to add your domain in Onepage
No matter which connection method you use, you start the setup directly in your Onepage project:
Open your project overview.
Click "Settings" on the project you want.
Open the "Domain settings" tab.
Click "Connect custom domain".
Enter your domain and then follow the steps shown.
Then choose the appropriate connection method. Onepage shows you exactly which DNS entries you need to add or remove with your domain provider.
As soon as you have made the changes, you can follow the connection status directly in Onepage.
📌 Please note: Depending on the provider and the DNS cache, it can take from a few minutes up to 48 hours for the DNS changes to take effect. The SSL certificate is then created automatically.
Summary
A Record: The recommended method for most websites. It is easy to set up, and your domain as well as the rest of your DNS management stay with your current provider.
Name servers: This method is better suited to advanced use cases where all DNS management is meant to run through Onepage.
CNAME: This method is suitable if you only want to connect a subdomain such as offer.yourdomain.com to Onepage.
