Before your website goes live, you should take care of three important areas: mandatory legal information, GDPR & cookies, and SEO basics. This way you make sure that your website meets the most important legal requirements and is optimally prepared for search engines.

Add a legal notice & privacy policy
Most website operators are required to have a legal notice and a privacy policy on their website. We therefore recommend that you always integrate both a legal notice and a privacy policy on your site to provide the necessary legal information and transparency.
To create your legal texts you can, for example, use a specialized service such as eRecht24 or have the texts drafted by a lawyer.
You can then add the finished texts directly in Onepage: open your project and click the blue "Create" button.
Then select "Internal pages". There you'll find the "Legal document" template. Select the template and then insert your legal text.
It's best to link the pages in the footer or in the menu of your website.

Set up a cookie banner
If you use cookies or other tracking and analytics tools on your website, you should check what kind of cookie banner is required for your website. Which solution you need depends, among other things, on which cookies, tracking tools and third-party content you use.
Onepage offers several options for this:
Free & Essential: In the notification banner, you can inform visitors that cookies are used. An active consent option is not included here.
Standard: The enhanced cookie banner is available to you as a GDPR consent solution.
From Advanced: In addition, the enhanced cookie banner lets you block third parties and their content or cookies until consent is given.
External solution: Alternatively, you can integrate an external cookie banner service into Onepage via custom code.
If you want to use our cookie banner, you will find the setting in your project under "Settings" → "Cookie banner". There you can select the banner type you want and then adjust, among other things, texts, links to your legal documents, position and colors.

You are not tied to the Onepage cookie banner. Alternatively, you can use an external service and integrate it into your website via custom code.

SEO basics: page titles, meta descriptions & favicon
Once your legal basics are in place, you can prepare your website for search engines.
In Onepage there are SEO settings at project level and individual SEO settings for single pages.
SEO settings for your entire project
The project-wide settings apply to your whole website. You will find them in the project overview → "Settings" → "SEO".
Here you can, among other things:
define the Website name,
define a Page title pattern,
manage structured data via Information schema,
configure your Sitemap,
define settings for Robots.txt,
and configure the LLMs.txt.
For getting started, the Website name and the Page title pattern are particularly important. The page title pattern determines, for example, how the title of your individual pages is built up in the search results.
SEO settings for individual pages
Every single page can also be optimized individually for search engines.
To do so, open the page you want and use the gear icon to go to "Settings" → "SEO". There you can enter the following details, among others:
Page title: The title of your page, which is displayed in the search results, among other places.
Page description: A short description of the content of your page.
Keywords: Relevant search terms for your page.
Sharing image: The preview image that is displayed when your page is shared on social networks, for example.
Markup: Structure headings from H1 to H6.
Alt-Texts: Describe images for search engines and screen readers.
You can write the page title and description yourself. In the paid plans, AI-assisted text creation is also available to you.

Add a favicon
The favicon is the small icon or logo of your website that is displayed in the browser tab or in the bookmarks bar, for example. It makes sure that your website can also be recognized quickly in the browser.
You can add your own favicon in Onepage:
Go to the project overview and click "Settings" on your project.
Open the "General" tab.
Upload your own favicon and save the changes.
Once you have checked and set up these settings, the most important legal and SEO basics for your website are prepared.
